Copyright (c) 1996 by Steven Marsh FAKE -10 or -15 points You belong to an alien race that just plain doesn't look real to most other races. For 10 points, you look like a race that could be designed by special effects folks relatively easily. You may look like you're made of vinyl or other "un-real" substances. Any other race that looks remotely like you will gain a +1 to any Disguise attempt. In addition, any fake-looking race will suffer a -1 reaction roll from any other race that isn't intimately familar with them; they just aren't taken seriously. The blue piano-player guy from Jabba the Hutt's palace is a textbook example of this; you can all but see the air-valve, fer chrissakes! Many recreations of the "Grey" alien also have this disadvantage. (Did anyone see the Sci-Fi channel movie "Official Denial"? Bwah-hah-hah!) The Next Gen Ferrengi are also 10-point Fake. For 15 points, you look so much like another race (one that has considerable power and prestige in the galactic scheme of things) that you will never be taken seriously. All races that look like yours gain +5 to any disguise attempts. If your race is treated seperately at all, it will be with great reluctance; all reaction roles are made at -3. ("Riiiiiiiight. So... you're a... Romulan? Uh-huh. How do I know you're not a human with slightly pointed ears who didn't get a bowl haircut?") In a universe with several 15-point fake races, it's very likely that there will be races totally made up, with only minor variations. ("I'm a... uh, Dacoozle. Yeah, that's it. I look... just like a Klingon... only I have this mole on my nose. Totally different race.") The old-Trek Klingons are perfect example of this; so, for that matter, are the Betazoids , the Bajorians , and the Andorians . Sorry.
