Group Aptitude Copyright (c) 1996 by Thomas (tgm) Ackermann New Advantages ************** Basic idea is, you can buy a Group-Aptitude (for all Combat-, Magic-, Psionic-, Social-, Scientific-, and so on Skills) that adds to DX or IQ for learning Skills in this whole Skill-Group (the skill-groups from Basic), or a Subgroup-Aptitude, that only adds to a certain part of Skills in the Skill-Group. This whole topic is *only* to enable characters that are good at some things without having such a high DX or IQ as well - something that occures in GURPS rules right now ... Mages, that are good Mages without beeing apt in Social or Scientific things as well; Fighters that can fight, but not dance or lockpick ... and so on. Please note, that the cost for this Aptitudes *are* balanced within the GURPS rules! (Can't include the reasoning right now - but believe me ;-) Group-Aptitudes: can be bought with 10p, 10p, 10p (10, 20, 30p); Subgroup-Aptitudes: can be bought with 6p, 6p, 6p (6, 12, 18p); Both have upto 3 levels, like Magery or Group Skill Aptitudes from FF2E ... Both can be added after creation, but for double cost, like for attributes. Two Subgroup-Aptitudes can be bought with 8p, 8p, 8p (8, 16, 24p); Three Subgroup-Aptitudes can be bought with 9p, 9p, 9p (9, 18, 27p); Whoever needs more Subgroups, should better consider to buy the Group-Aptitude instead of the Subgroup-Aptitudes ... Note, that these Aptitudes only work for learned skills, not for default-uses of skills! Some Examples (divide Scientific skills into Hard and Soft skills and maybe into several subgroups ..., what Social Sub-Groups are possible?): *********************************************************************** Combat: Combat Aptitude, Group-Aptitude: Adds +1 per Level to all Combat/Weapon Skills. Unarmed Combat Aptitude, Subgroup-Aptitude: Adds +1 per Level to all Unarmed Combat Skills. Melee Weapon Aptitude, Subgroup-Aptitude: Adds +1 per Level to all Melee-Weapon Skills. Thrown Weapons Aptitude, Subgroup-Aptitude: Adds +1 per Level to all Thrown-Weapon Skills. Missile Weapons Aptitude, Subgroup-Aptitude: Adds +1 per Level to all Missile-Weapon Skills. *********************************************************************** Magic: Spell Aptitude, Group-Aptitude: Adds +1 per Level to all Spells; this is in addition to the bonus granted through Magery! College Aptitude, Subgroup-Aptitude: Must specialize in a College from Magic or Grimoire; Adds +1 per Level to all Missile-Weapon Skills. (you can buy this for each and any College!) *********************************************************************** Psionics: Psionic Skills Aptitude, for 10p, 10p, 10p (10, 20, 30p) Adds +1 per Level to all psionic Skills. Psionic Power Skill Aptitude, for 6p, 6p, 6p (6, 12, 18p) Must specialize in a psionic Power; Adds +1 per Level to all psionic Skills in that Power. (you can buy this for each and any psionic Power!) *********************************************************************** Thief/Spy Aptitudes, from John (john@elvw.demon.co.uk) Wood (although i'm not *fully* confident with it, John ;-) Manual Subgroup: Holdout, Lockpicking, Pickpocket, Sleight of Hand. Making Subgroup: Forgery, Traps (building/disarming/setting), Demolition, Underwater Demolition. Sense Subgroup: Lip Reading, Scrounging, Tracking, Traps (detection). Social Subgroup: Acting, Detect Lies, Fast-Talk, Interrogation, Intimidation, Streetwise. Stealth Subgroup: Camouflage, Disguise, Stealth, Shadowing. Missing: Computer Hacking, Cryptanalysis, Escape, Intelligence Analysis, No-Landing Extraction, Poisons, Ventriloquism. Maybe not include Acting & Fast-Talk in a subgroup since they're also listed under Social Skills - that would give 4 skills per subgroup, nice and neat. I hope it doesn't mess things up splitting Traps between 2 subgroups. *********************************************************************** Other things: Single Skill Aptitude, for 2p, 2p, 2p (2, 4, 6p) Must specialize in a Skill; Adds +1 per level to this Skill. most probably not needed and too munchkin-like ... Other Sub/Subsub-groups: from 2p, 2p, 2p (2, 4, 6p) upto 9p, 9p, 9p (9, 18,27p) or more.
