Very few things are known about Celine. Her first name would indicate that her family's from Quebec. She's been with the Lone Star since she's been 19, a long time ago. She graduated from riot control to patrol div, and then to the FRT. In the FRT, she proved she was very good with tactics, guns and general violence. After some administrative infighting, she was transferred to the SWAT. Celine was a pointswoman for several SWAT teams during 5 years. She killed more than a thousand persons during this time, and became quite digusted with life in general. Imagine waking up every day at 6 to experience slaughter, hostage crises, unbearable tension, shooting junkies, terrorists and shadowrunners, seeing your team disintegrate around you due to casualties and combat fatigue... and you'll have an idea about what McGrudder experienced for 5 years. Her intelligence and willpower allowed her to tough it out rather than become a psychological wreck. That is why she was picked by Lieutenant Blackbone to be the co-leader of Team Crossbones, a Max Tac outfit. Team Crossbones lasted for two years. Under Blackbone's and McGrudder's leadership, the team made very good work, proud of its ability to utterly minimize collateral damage and casualties. Unfortunately, Team Crossbones had a hellish schedule, being used as a PR tool by the Lone Star. The team had to call it quits after two years ; being on the field almost 16 hours a day was unbearable, and even the toughest men and women on the force started to sink into combat fatigue. Being used to the tactical way of life, McGrudder experienced severe problems when she returned to a normal cop life, a "veteran syndrom" common among tactical teams. She became hostile toward her superiors, and nearly dropped her professional activities so she could build the personal life she had been denied for 7 years. She finally violated regulations when she agreed to do some security consulting for the Lesbian League as a free lancer. Her homophobc superior, who had long loathed her, arranged to have her discharged, but Blackbone pulled some strings, and she instead was sent do Discipline 7, a disciplinary precinct. After she was forced to kill Goldberg, the former precinct chief who had gone cyberpsycho, she became precinct chief. McGrudder, ever since she first had to shoot a woman, illegally customizes her uniform with "death" motifs (such is the privilege of elite units...) She wears a black velvet band around the neck, with an ivory skull on the throat. The "O" in the "Lone Star" inscription on the back of her jacket was slightly altered to look like a death's head. One of her hearing is a black sun with the inscription "Helios Mortis". She has a flat chrome skull on the back of her left hand, with the inscription "Vae Mortis" etched on it. She put a small Judge Death action figure hanging from the rear-view mirror in her patrol car. The door of her office bears the inscription "Man's only hope for salvation is redemption ; man's only hope for redemption is death", and is painted black. Other fun details : her left arm is fully metallic, the grip of her Manhunter bear kill marks (in Lone Star code, they mean about 1500 dead), she's got a poker game with her former unit (Crossbones) every sunday, she likes old Judge Dredd comics a lot. She has a special hatred against cop killers, and has been known to "accidentally" terminate such individuals instead of reading them their rights. Yet more fun facts : McGrudder is a lesbian, and quite proud of it ; she currently lives with Special Agent O'Rourke, another member of Discipline 7. She's had her share of homophobic comments from fellow cops, and has developed an habit of punching peoples who crack jokes about her sexuality, out of sheer intolerance for stupidity. She's had very few lovers, but they all strongly contributed to her remaining sane ; O'Rourke is no exception. McGrudder is highly respected by the Lone Star grunts. Every cop in Seattle knows who she is, and what she has done. While she has be demoted to master sergeant, everybody still call her captain out of habit. Even peoples who are now supposed to be her superior will obey her orders. She's ex-Crossbones, and that counts a lot. Her radio callsign was Echo Zulu, but it has been altered in the Crossbones tradition, and has become Echo Zombie. Besides all that, one the first things you will notice about McGrudder is that she is a chain smoker. Her voice has become somewhat hoarse, and at any given moment, she's either smoking or lighting a cigarrette. The next thing you'll notice is that she is incredibly intimidating when she uses her "cop voice" or her "cop gaze". She has the ability to make most peoples feel incredibly small and vulnerable when she's in a bad mood or when she roars "freeze". One of her biggest gripes is that she never could have a life. She never had the time until now to build a strong relationship with that special woman, never had a chance to own a decent place, never had a chance to raise a kid, never had friends outside her unit, never had a night on the town with anybody except other cops. She can get quite bitter about it, feeling that her dedication to law enforcement robed her of her youth. Well, that's a bit sketchy, but that should work. I currently play her like a sort of mentor for the PCs in a GURPS Shadowrun campaign. Since she wants her peoples to stay alive, she's been training them in risk control, tactical action, and general police and investigation techniques. When I hesitate about how Celine should react, I think about James Gordon in Batman : Year One, and about Judge Dredd, and it flows. If you plan on playing her, keep in mind that McGrudder is godawfully tough. She's a *pro*, and she's very experienced ; she developped strong intuitive capabilities ("gut feelings"), and has spend countless hours training and in SWAT interventions. In a tactical situation, she's pure hell; you have to be when you spent seven years tackling cyberpsychos and combat mages on a routine basis. She's also a very competent detective, and an extremely good leader. Plus, I *like* her.
