More than one person has had second thoughts about picking on "the runt" after blinking at the wrong time and finding his sword point on their adam's apple. And more than one hasn't even had time for second thoughts. Glitch spent the early part of his adventuring career aimlessly wandering from town to town and job to job. During one journey he ended up losing all his equipment and being kidnapped by an unknown subterranean group, presumably some ghouls. His kidnappers "requested" his help is losing some bounty hunters and in return gave him the contents of a grave they had "acquired". The grave contents were the arms and armor of an Imperial Legionnaire. In the campaign the Imperial Legion is _the_ elite military unit. Induction into it is only by valor on the battlefield. Among it's duties are personal guard to the Arduinian Kings. And in Arduin the kings have enough magical equipment and power to make a minor god think twice. Imperial Legionnaires are a direct extension of the Kings and act as their eyes, ears, and hands. They have the authority to pass High and Low Judgement on _anyone_, nobility and commoner alike. They are recognized by their unique swords. They can be thought of as campaign equivalents of Knights of the Round Table. They are the _only_ people exempt from the various "no weapons allowed" laws that apply to Arduin taverns, public buildings, and being in the Kings' presence. The first time Glitch walked into an inn after acquiring his new sword the bouncer naturally moved to collect his weapons. The bouncer had (understandably) trouble believing that this three-and-a-half foot mute midget could be an Imperial Legionnaire. So he asked Glitch where he got the sword. Glitch, being mute, pointed in the direction of his last adventure. By dumb luck he also happened to be pointing right at the heart of the site of the biggest and bloodiest battle of the recently finished war. The bouncer became very respectful. So Glitch now finds that he no longer has to disarm himself upon entering a tavern and people tend to buy him drinks. Very nice. Problem is they also expect him to uphold the honor of the Imperial Legion. Like the last town that expected him to end the plague of zombies and other undead they were suffering from. Or settle this argument. And be judge in that trial. Oh, and by the way, we're having this _little_ problem.... And not being especially bright, Glitch keeps finding himself trying to act like an Imperial Legionnaire. He's beginning to wonder if this nice sword is worth the trouble it seems to get him into. And no one has yet figured out the he isn't an Legionnaire. (You can guess what the penalty for impersonatting an Imperial Legionnaire is if anyone ever does figure it out.) Since he's mute it's hard for him to slip and tell anyone the truth. And he does his best to act like a proper Legionnaire even without realizing it himself, so it's not likely that anyone will call him on it anytime soon. In the meantime Glitch muddles along from town to town occasionally getting caught up in some situation that calls for a "Legionnaire" to fix it, surviving on his skill with a sword and the Legion's reputation.
