Thought people might be interested in the following mage. I'm not going to fully describe the character, just the important details. You can flesh out this character with your own personal touch. MAIN CHARACTER POINT: this character can shapechange to any form within 1 second (including non-living forms) as long as the character statistics (i.e. Stregnth, dexterity) are reasonably near the original. At no fatigue cost. How, you may ask? ***** Begin with Magery III, Literacy, St 9, Ht 8, IQ 13, 5 points of quirks and 40 of disads (standard, schmoe, Wizard type). One of your disadvantages should be Status -2 (for 10 points). This leaves you with 95 points in skills. Start taking spells. You want to get to two specific spells, so only take their prerequisites along the way for now; all your prereqs will be at skill 14 or (for v/h) 13 (you can raise your IQ later if you want to get to 15). The two you are going for are from the Gurps Grimoire; Ensorcel (enchantment), and Greater Shapechanging (Animal control). You want them at equal and high levels (as high as you can afford; 20 of each is perfect but I think impossible with 100 points). (note:) As part of your background as a wizard, you are allowed to make enchantmented stuff (i.e. powerstones, staff spell) if you can pay the expenses for materials and cost of living. This is in the rules. It also states in the rules (for anyone, it's in the basic book) that you can exchange 1 character point for 1 months income. Now you can probably see where I am going with this. Ensorcel yourself with the Greater Shapechanging. Include an escape clause if you want; you must pay for the time spent enchanting as cost of living; to do so use as many single-point incomes as necessary. By taking the disadvantage Status-2 you have effectively cut your cost of living to 25% of what it would otherwise have been. Putting in an escape clause will also make it cheaper. If you have any remaining point use them to round out your wizard in any way you wish. Net effect of all this rigmarole: You have a gonzo wizard with lots of spells. This wizard can shapechange on command but cannot (or will not) change back to his "original" form- small price to pay. This shapechanging is free of fatigue cost and can be used to form not only animals but non-living objects too. You have probably earned the anger of the GM for even considering such a character, the envy of the other players, and will walk around eternally paranoid of No-mana zones and npc wizards with enough powerstones to cast Remove Curse in one shot (I would personally take the points and learn Ward and Remove Curse for just such an occasion). But hey, what a *cool* idea. At least I thought so.
