Copyrgith (c) 1996 by John Wood Remember Thing from the Addams Family? Another character from my upcoming IOU game is Thing's niece, a computer wiz. I've been using the Race Creation Rules from FF2 (BTW, good work, Doctor), and this is what I've got so far, based on the old series and the first movie: Hands (85 pts): ST 10, DX 10/13, IQ 10, HT 10/3, Speed 7 Advantages (+129): Disadvantages (-75): Catfall +10 Horizontal -10 Increased Speed +2 +50 Mute (Correctible)* -15 Injury Tolerance: One Fine Manipulator -15 No Brain +5 Reduced Hit Points-7 -35 No Neck +5 No Vitals +5 Skills (+6): Manual Dexterity +3 +9 Acrobatics@DX +4 Perfect Balance +15 Climbing@DX +2 Sensitive Touch +10 Gesture@IQ+3** +1 Super Jump 2 (*4) +20 Jumping@DX+1 +2 Psionics (+25): Teleport Power 7 +21 (into hidden containers only, -40%) Autoteleport@IQ +4 * Invented - see below. ** Including Mute bonus. Most of the acrobatic stuff is based on the film version; the teleport is because of the way Thing always used to appear from cigar boxes, etc in the old series. Horizontal is to represent the way they can't move and manipulate (or easily carry) objects at the same time; One Fine Manipulator and the Injury Tolerances should be obvious 8-). I didn't give them Inconvenient Size because, like cats, Thing seemed very comfortable in the human world. Sensitive Touch, Manual DX and the skills were just appropriate and/or to round up the point total to a nice number. Now the tricky stuff. I set average Hit Points at 3, partly because that's approximately the amount of damage needed to cripple an average human's hand, partly because that was the level given to Enhanced Cats - and I see the Hands as quite like cats. Does this seem reasonable? I didn't alter ST/Fatigue - but I'm *very* unsure about this! A Hand can't do as much with its ST if it's not attached to a human - not enough leverage, for one thing. Any ideas as to what level I should set it at? I remember Thing in the film pulling a "hand-cart" with no problems. Alison (the player) suggested having a very small computer (with speaker) slung across the Hand's back, which could be flipped off and used for communication, a la Stephen Hawking. This would reduce the points break for Mute, but since it can't be done while moving I didn't think it warranted as much of a reduction as Correctible Bad Sight, so I set the cost of "Correctible Mute" at 15 pts. does this seem about right? Also, does -40% seem about right for the Teleport limitation "only into hidden containers"? I was going to assume that not being able to see into it was not a problem - no skill penalty, no castling, no exploding as your atoms merge with the cigars in the box...
