   Allyson Harland was an Engineering Student when the 
Iri Imperial Navy attacked Star base LD 812, starting the 
"Eerie" War.  Drafted into the Ahstulian System Guard she 
was assigned to a Mecha unit, doubling as a gunner.  
   The planet Ahstul was isolated from most of the Sector 
federation to begin with, and pretty quickly cut off by 
the Irripoal forces.  Ahstul had little in it's favor 
beyond a fairly well equipped System Guard, and several 
stategic and tactical miracle workers at ASG's commanding 
levels.  It was a mean and ugly little bubble of war 
mostly over possession of two large moons orbiting the 
Gas Giant in the next orbit to Ahstul a good 20 parsecs 
from the main front. 
   Allyson shares a fairly common belief on Ahstul: that 
the Federation is at fault for the war, both in allowing 
their defenses to deplete so badly that the Eeries could 
sweep through and for being so arrogant that they pushed 
the Irippoal to war in the first place. 
   The fact that Federal Intelligence Department agents 
managed to decieve the Irippoal into thinking Ahstul was 
on the verge of developing a new FTL torpedo weighs 
heavily on the minds of most Ahstulese.  This had the 
effect of pulling Crown Princess Wyrszl's fleet away from 
the central flank, crucial to the Fed's winning the 
battle of New Bakersfield.  But it put Ahstul under the 
guns of Princess' finest for nearly 2 standard months.  A 
lot of people died then, mostly civilians, and the loss 
of most of that year's crops did more damage that winter. 
   There is a VERY strong sentiment these days in favor 
of Seccession.  The main (almost sole) argument against 
it is that the Feds wouldn't be obligated to go to war if 
the eeries decided to attack the newly soveriegn state, 
and while they were able to hold off everything the 
eeries had to throw at them, the Eeries have a LOT more 
to throw if the Feds stay neutral. 
   Allyson, like many don't think the Eeries really want 
their system that badly.  The ASG ravaged the Irippoal 
forces at least as well as their planet was ravaged by 
them.  They'll be too busy licking their wounds and 
looking for easier targets to pillage and loot next time.
