There is no physical change but there is the standard chance mystics can detect this. Background: Carl Jains was enlisted in the Shadow War half a life time ago. He and a couple of buddies were kicking back on the roof of an apartment building in North Miami, smoking some joints, polishing off a case of Michelob and having a good time, when one of his friends, Chrissy Metz, had a seizure of some kind. What had happened was she had been wearing an amulet a santaria witch had made. It cursed the wearer, invited hostile spirits to possess the wearer. Chrissy got very unlucky. She was possessed by a major manifestation of the death god, Ikku. In seconds she'd grabbed one of her companions and hurled him off the building to his death. She then pulled a knife out and began slashing. Tommy Haster tried to calm her down and got his throat slashed. Pete Velasco got out his own knife and stabbed Chrissy from behind. His blade BOUNCED off her skin like she was Superman or something. Chrissy whirled around and tossed her knife from hand to hand like a circus perfomer and slowly advanced on Velasco. Carl tackled her and took a knife wound to his back. He dropped, but reflexively grabbed out and yanked off the amulet as he fell. Legba took the opportunity to use the amulet's power and possessed Carl for the first time. Mount fought mount until Legba drove Ikku away. Ikku got two kills and Chrissy did close to ten years for two counts of 2nd degree murder. But Carl became an initate that night. He studied hard, learning to become a video technician as Florida became a site of major studio production facilities but more importantly, he learned the ways of the spirit world and of the war in the shadows. And devoted himself to stopping the Corrupters who would gladly destroy us all. Legba helped, seeing in the young man a Paladin for his cause. A cause that would need much help in a world where super beings existed. Much of Carl's training was developing his mind to be especially strong, thus his very high IQ and Will. He studied protection magicks and the rites of various magical styles. And he went to war against the corrupters. He's killed several In-betweeners who were members of, or associated with, the Lodge of Ophites as they preyed upon the streets of Miami. The lodge hasn't been happy with him. To date they lost more of their friends than Carl has of his but the score is pretty close. Carl was ritually boosted in other ways by the priests of Legba to achieve some "Super Voodoo" powers. He mastered the ability to put up incredibly tough skin even when not in Spirit Warrior mode. Although he can keep the defense up indefinitely, it does leave an aura that 4th and greater level initiates can see, (and is detectable by other methods as well) so he often keeps it off to avoid attracting attention. He also developed a ritual to confound the minds of his foes, one he could work without any preparation. This is how he destroyed invulnerable in-betweeners, rendered them catetonic long enough to get them into a boat and out to sea, abandoning them far enough from the human contact they required until their fusion of material and spirit bodies disassociated. Legba helped again, teaching him how to speed up the ritual so it could be cast instantly. Operating masked seemed wise, from mundane perspectives it looks like he is attacking normals rather than in-betweeners. A local morning DJ commented on a news report concerning him and jokingly named him "Cap - E - Tan KHAHZ MOSE" applying a very bad Jamaican accent as he spoke. In the absence of an alternate name, it stuck, though the local papers spelled it almost correctly, using a K rather than a C for Cosmos. The Lodge refers to him as "Legba's Paladin" or "the Paladin" for the most part. So far no charges have been issued against "Capitan Kosmos" as yet, though police officials throughout the Miami/Dade County area certainly want to talk to him. A super who was in the pay of the Lodge was left mind boggled and stripped of his polykev costume. Carl wears it under his own costume.
