He took to the costumed identity of "Cobalt" and began waging a war on criminals. This brought him to the attention of a group of Supers called "The Justinians", who operated out of an abandoned oil platform off of Huntington Beach, Ca. converted to a super base. In due course he became a member. Mallone had a ranged attack power but inevitably charged in to point blank range when he used it. He had a defense that made him harder to hit, but did little to deflect damage from the hits he did take, and thus became one of two members mostly responsible for the group's high medical bills. (A 3rd "damage magnet" in the group had regeneration...) The Justinians were magically summoned to another plane and put into the position of defending Castle Oberon from a three headed dragon. Again, Cobalt took heavy damage, once more earning his nickname of "Pulp". The dragon was defeated and the healer mages of Oberon used their spells to heal their wounded saviours. Something went horribly wrong with the spell that was supposed to heal Cobalt. He took more damage from it and died on the spot. But the soul of Eric Mallone didn't go to whatever afterlife was due to him. Perhaps because of the magic that summoned him and/or the magical energy that accidentally killed him, he remained in the world(s) of mortals. He felt attracted to a large humanoid iron statue. Touching it, he was absorbed into it, displacing the bear spirit that had been trapped within, animating it. A few minutes later chaos started as he went to find his friends. A short combat between heroes later, all was explained. The wizard who made the golem wasn't happy about losing the Iron golem he'd made, especially after enchanting it to heal itself, and root the feet of it's foes, and fly like a hawk, but the transfer appeared irreversable, Cobalt did die saving the castle and he had no real use for an independent Golem, so he somewhat grudgingly gave his blessings. Mallone found he could generate his plasma attack in his new body, but at a reduced power level. The group returned to Earth, and Mallone had some serious problems. His ex-wife knew his secret identity, and when the story of Cobalt's death and "reincarnation" became known, she went public with his real identity, apparently believing she had some sort of widow's claim to Mallone's estate, consisting of his house, several classic automobiles and 3 houses he rented out or leased. Mallone didn't leave a will, and his nearest relative, a once removed 1st cousin with a touch of the scoundrel in him, got a good lawyer. Mallone, or "Ferrik" as he's now called, is in legal limbo. Is he an extradimensional illegal non-human alien who just happens to allegedly have Eric Mallone's memories, and a plasma power that vaguely resembles that of the late hero Cobalt, but other abilities Cobalt never had, as his cousin't lawyer claims, or Eric Mallone? Until this is decided, his property and legal status is uncertain. Currently he is being treated like an immigrant, and Serpenta, the current head of the Justinians is his sponsor. He is getting wages from the Justinians and this is his sole source of income at present. Tactics: Ferrik is far better suited for getting into melee range combat, which is good. His weakened plasma blast power is laughed off by well armored or otherwise damage protected villains. And while his rooted feet power is formidable, it can be broken free by very strong foes, and can only be used so many times a day. He works best dealing with goons of a main villain, unless said villain can be hurt by an 8 die damage attack, and letting the other heroes deal with the villain. With a 30 ST he can handle many foes in hand to hand combat, and his DR, augmented by his Polykev costume makes him pretty hard to hurt. Equipment: Heavy Polykev costume PD 4, DR 35. * As a human, Malone is a superb swimmer. He is too heavy to really swim though his ST is high enough to allow him to propel himself through water, sort of. As he can fly, and thus go through water at a far greater rate of speed, this is a moot point.
