Background: Campaign is Supers, loosely based on Wild Cards. Starting character points, 250. Character was a US soldier in China in 1940 forced to retreat to Himalayas. Spent 5 years at a Shao-Lin monastary, returned to the US the day after Wild Card Day, 1946. Bug War, 1949. Alien insectile race invades Earth. "Bugs" use psi the way humans use machines/technology. Bug spacecraft are powered by telekinetics, etc. War began with selective orbital strikes by invaders and ended when an NPC Gadgeteer used six months of the Hoover Dam's output to power a railgun. Character spent the war as a guerilla in occupied New York City. Just before war ended he lost both arms and was placed in stasis until mid 1990's. (This represented a real world haitus. When gaming resumed it was decided to "jump ahead" to 1990's.) Campaign world by 1995 is mid Tech 8. The existence of supers and continueing skirmishes with Bugs lead to accelerated tech advancement. Permanent Lunar, Martian, and Belt colonies; routine UN Naval patrols out as far as Pluto. Character's arms replaced with cloning technology. Personality snapshot: Kwa Chai Cain willing to kill. (Bonus points to anyone who can name the inspiration for the character's name. :) ) Note: character is the _only_ character to have survived from the beginning of the campaign, all other players have lost at least two characters, usually more. Ed Gruberman 5' 7", 165 lb, somewhat dumpy looking, brown eyes, black hair. Born 1920, subjective age 29. Point total: 341 (250 starting plus experience). ST: 14 (thrust dam: 1d6, swing 2d6) DX: 16 IQ: 15 HT: 12 Basic speed: 7 Advantages 40 Trained by a Master 15 Combat Reflexes 25 Toughness, DR 2 Disadvantages -10 Overconfidence -10 Honesty -5 Truthfulness -15 Vow: Use abilities for Good, fight Evil, Protect innocents, Avenge those who have been wronged. Quirks Loner; doesn't talk much; likes dice games; uses unusual curse, in Chinese; dislikes "hi-tek" weapons (the last quirk represents his "buying off" a Vow to use no weapons but staff, bow, and self. That proved unfeasible after he was hired for his first orbital job.) He is also earning a reputation for telling the _craziest_ war stories if you catch him after he's a few too many drinks. (He's only 30. How could he have fought in the Bug War. My granddad fought that war.) He's also the only known "nat" to survive being dropped from 500 yards by a Bug (combination of Acrobatics, Breakfall, Rolling With A Blow and his medallion). (The incident was caught on film. A few have taken this as evidence that he is really an Ace no matter what the genetic tests say.)
