By the time he was old enough to enlist, national powers had declined in importance at the expense of the Megacorps. Drake ended up joining "Sutton's Irregulars", once a small but reputable merc outfit, now a large one with a good but not as good as it used to be reputation. Duty primarily consisted of providing security for Am-Steed Protective Gear and Outfitting Inc. (ASPGO) makers of a number of armor types. A lot of the Irregular's pay was in gear rather than cash. ASPGO was developing a new armor that incorporated force projection gear developed from the autopsy of a mutant with force based powers. Test results looked very good. Several suits were customized for Sutton troopers to field test. Drake was a last minute selection, a replacement for a trooper who was injured in a helicopter crash. He had to do most of his training while the others were in the field. Most of the troopers were doing field testing of a publicity getting nature. (They were selected for having such qualities as good appearance, charisma etc.) Drake, being somewhat less photogenic, has gotten a lot of genuine field test assignments, usually helping police or security firms deal with heavily armed criminals and/or super powered opposition. This has made him a couple of serious enemies. Fortunately, ASPGO's advertising director put a "code name" aspect on each of the armored troops. Known as "Twilight", his identity is known only to his immediate superiors. (Most other armored troops were from the same company. Their secret IDs aren't quite so secret. A couple of them were murdered by vengeance seeking enemies, and survivors have to get used to the alternate identies Sutton provided. The bad thing about being the odd man out of the group was that ASPGO wanted to find out how the suit worked for a solo user. He is most likely to be operating alone or in conjunction with local agencies, whereas his peers usally work in tandem or larger formations. Twilight does occasionally work with the others, but this is rare. He's either doing a very good job as the solo, or someone at HQ wants him killed in the line of duty. Drake is still trying to figure out which guess is true.
