This file includes 14 near-future and 14 historical weapons systems. Most of the furturistic weapons were inspired by weapons in novels, comics, and movies. The source for each weapon is given at the end of the file. Comments are welcome: send to a_copeab@ccsvax.sfasu.edu All weapon statistics were created and compiled by me, so any faults are mine alone. Any help in pricing the older guns (price at the time, not today's) would be appreciated. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hundley Arms XMP, XAC, and XSMG The X series of weapons all use the same basic weapon, with changes in barrel length and shoulder and forestock. The magazine is a cylinder, mounted in-line with the barrel, behind the trigger. The rounds are fed into the chamber by the turning of the core of the cylinder, which is one large screw. The three weapons, all using .22 LR, are a machine pistol (5" barrel), an SMG (9" barrel) with a folding stock, and an auto-carbine (18" barrel) with a fixed shoulder stock. Magazines come in 50 and 100 round sizes. The 50 round costs $5 and weighs 1.5 lbs. The 100 round costs $10 and weighs 3 lbs (loaded for both). The machine pistol costs $150 and weighs 1.5 lbs unloaded. The SMG costs $250 and weighs 2.5 lbs. The auto-carbine costs $350 and weighs 3.5 lbs. Semi-automatic only versions are available for 1/2 cost. The XSMG and XAC can use a laser and telescopic sight, while the XMP can use one or the other. For an extra $25, the XAC can be factory modified to accept a bayonet. Game Stats: All the weapons malfunction on a Crit Failure in semi- auto fire, a 16+ in auto-fire. 50% of all malfunctions in autofire are jams (roll normally for semi-auto). The weapons do handle recoil well though. All have a min STR of 9, and a RCL -1 in semi-auto fire. The XMP has RCL -2 in auto-fire (it is used one handed), the XSMG is still -1, and the XAC adds recoil only on every other burst. weapon dam ss acc 1/2 dam max rof XMP 1d+1 10 3 70 1200 20* XSMG 1d+2 10 5 100 1350 20* XAC 2d-1 11 8 150 1500 20* ------------------------------------------------------------- Hundley Arms M-143b Airico Minigun Based on the feed technology used in the X series, the M-143b is a man-portable, three-barreled automatic weapon, using caseless 5.56mm ammo. The weapons feeds through two cylinders in the back, each one with a capacity of 50 rounds, a weight of 2 pounds and a cost of $75 each. The gun itself weighs 30 pounds and costs $2,500. The gun is designed to be fired either from the hip (with a sling), from a bipod (included), tripod, or from a fixed mount. The gun has a removable firing grip that can be attached either on top (for hip firing) or on the bottom (for firing from a bipod or tripod). For use from a fixed emplacement, the firing grip is not used; rather, a cable links the gun to the gun controls (yes, you can be cyberlinked to this weapon without any special modifications to it). There are no sights on the gun, except for a built-in laser sight. The stats below assume the laser sight is on the gun and working. If not, then the snapshot number is 16 and the accuracy is 6 (which can only be gained by walking the burst). The gun has two rates of fire, taking one second to change between the two. The gun is lightweight, with manageable recoil, and fires a variety of ammunition, including APDS, flechette, HE, and standard ammo. The weapon costs $1250 and weighs only 9 pounds. A 5-round clip weighs 5 pounds, with the cost varying depending on the ammo type. A sling is provided, as well as basic iron sights. Laser and/or telescopic sights may be fitted as desired. The 20mm ammo used in this gun is not interchangeable with other 20mm ammo, as it uses a smaller powder charge to achieve lower recoil. game data: AG-17/20 dam (varies), ss 15, acc 9, 1/2 dam 500, max 3500, rof 1, rcl -3, str 13, wt (loaded) 14, cost (loaded) varies, malf Crit ammo types: standard (slug): dam 15d6, cost $30/clip APDS: dam 15d6+15, halve DR, +50% to 1/2 and max range, halve damage after armor penetration, cost $150/clip HE: dam 15d6-15 plus 1d6+3 HE damage (5d6+15 if it explodes inside a living creature), double DR, 50% chance of starting a fire if flammables present, cost $60/clip (note: if the round blows though the target, the shell will not explode inside it) flechette: dam 5d6 impaling, 1/10 ranges, acc 5, treat as a shotgun except as already noted, cost $40/clip [ Dysonian Arms manufactures a competing 20mm rifle in bullpup configuration, the M-23, using a built-in cylinder for the feed system, and using caseless ammo. Differences are: SS 13, gun weight 8 lbs, ammo weight 2.5 lbs/clip, mag 10. This weapon is used mainly by commandoes and security forces, since the cylinder loads too slowly for battlefield use. The weapon uses the same ammo types as the AG-17/20.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dysonian Arms M-41a pulse rifle The pulse rifle is a smg firing 10mm caseless HE rounds. It is equipped with a built-in 30mm grenade launcher. The ammo capacity is high, at 100*10mm rounds (although the digital ammo counter doesn't go higher than 99) and 5*30mm rounds. The gun comes with a sling and carrying handle. The smg portion of the gun is capable of selective fire. Various sights and vision aids can be added. game data: M-41a, 10mm dam 2d*, ss 11, acc 6, 1/2 dam 175, max 2300, rof 12, rcl -1, str 11 30mm dam 3d+3**, ss 12, acc 5, min 5, max 200, rof 1/2, rcl -2, str 12 cost (gun) $2500 cost (10mm magazine) $125 cost (5x30mm shells) $100 loaded cost: $2725 weight (gun) 7.5 lbs weight (10mm mag) 2.5 lbs weight (5x30mm shells) 4 lbs loaded weight: 14 lbs * -- HE damage is 1d-2 (min. 1); multiply by 5 if it goes off inside a person or living being; x2 DR for penetration purposes ** -- no fragmentation damage ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Remington SU-12k Under-Rifle Shotgun Attachment This is a pump shotgun with a sawed-off barrel and the buttstock removed. It is fitted to a rifle in much the same way as an M-203 grenade launcher. It may only be fitted to rifles. The rile and shotgun may be fired the same round, but accuracy for both is halved, and ROF of both is 1 (unless the rile is being fired automatic). game data: Dam 4d, ss 14, acc 4, 1/2dam 25, max 150, mag 5, str 12, rcl -2, cost $250, wt 6 lbs ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hades Corp Incinerator I-7E This is a lightweight flamethrower with a small fuel bottle, attached directly below the gun, rather than using a large backpack. The fuelpack is PD 2 DR 4, and it is -4 to be hit. If penetrated, it has a 50% chance of exploding (exception: HE rounds always cause it to explode), doing 4d6 per second of fuel left in the hex it is in, halved for every hex away from the explosion. The recoil penalty is taken only if the firer continues firing at the same target in consecutive rounds. Also, while a laser sight could be added to improve the snap- shot number, it won't help on accuracy (the flame obstructs view of the laser beam). The 3d6 damage per round cannot be stopped by water or most conventional fire extinguishers of TL7 or less. Additional ammo costs $100 and weighs 4 pounds per fuel bottle. game data: dam 4d + 3d per round until extinguished, ss 13, acc 4, 1/2dam 10, max 45, ammo 10 seconds, weight (loaded) 12 lbs, cost (loaded) $750, str 10, rcl -2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mauser 960-A Assault System This is typical of a 'do-it-all' weapon system at TL8-9. The Mauser 960 is a pulse laser with a built-in magazine-fed 40mm grenade launcher. The laser uses a belt-battery. A 6x scope comes standard with the gun. Also included with the weapon system, packed inside the hollow butt-stock, are 2 emergency flares, a pulse signal stick, 2 packages of emergency rations, 5 meters of nylon cord, a flashlight, and a mini first-aid kit. Included, but not stored in the weapon, is an entrenching tool. A vibro-bayonet, which can actually be launched from the gun by throwing a thumb switch, is included. The total weight of the system, minus laser battery and grenades, is 23 pounds. With one load of ammo, weight is 30 pounds. game data: pulse laser (dam 2d imp, acc 13*, ss 12, 1/2dam 600, max 2000, ammo 140**, rof 8, str --, rcl --, weight 16 lbs) grenade launcher (dam by grenade type, acc 6, ss 15, 1/2 dam 125, max 400, ammo 6, rof 1, str 11, rcl -2, weight --) vibro bayonet (dam 2d cut, 3d imp; if launched, acc 0, ss 14, max 10) * - does not include sight **- each burst uses 8 shots ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Simms AS-12/10 10mm Assault Shotgun The AS-12/10 is a fully automatic shotgun firing 10mm rounds (similar to the old Terran .410-gauge round) of either shot or rifled slug. The weapon resembles the old AK-47 externally. Rifle-type sights are provided as is a sling and bayonet lug. Telescopic or laser sights may be used. A loaded clip costs $10 for shot, or $30 for rifled slug. Clips are available that alternate round type ($25). Heavier versions (15mm) were tested, but ammo capacity was poor, and the recoil was hideous. AS-12/10 damage 2d shot, ss 13, acc 5, 1/2dam 25, max 150, mag 20, rof 6*, str 10, rcl -2, wt 8 lbs, cst $450 rifled slugs do 4d damage, are +2 to acc, ranges are tripled [note: shotgun slugs should use the same modifiers as pre-20th century rifle rounds - double the target's DR, but any damage that gets through is doubled] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dysonian Arms Barracuda target pistol. The Barracuda is a .45 caliber magnum, bolt-action, magazine-fed, target and hunting pistol. The gun is rather heavy, but does not have the kick one would expect. If the gun is dropped or abused, its accuracy drops by 1-3 points. A shoulder stock (doubling as a holster) is available, at a cost of $150 and adding +3 to accuracy and 2.5 pounds to weight. The Barracuda is a very difficult handgun to conceal, as it is 16" long. Price and accuracy include target sights. If a telescopic sight is fitted, drop the weapon's base acc by -2 (the high-quality target sights can no longer be used). Ammo costs $10 per 50 rounds, and weighs 3 lbs. game stats: .45-cal Mag Barracuda dam 4d-1, ss 12, acc 6, 1/2dam 250, max 2800, mag 3+1, str 12, rcl -2, rof 1/2, cost $750, wt 4 pounds ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ArmsCorp G-2 Gauss Battle Rifle This weapon is in bullpup configuration, with a 60 round magazine (including the battery) behind the pistol grip. It has gyrostabilization, and come standard with a battlefield scope (incorporating light intensification, passive IR, 6x magnification, and a laser rangefinder that may also be used for target painting). Also standard is a sling and a RAG grenade launcher attachment. This is the standard weapon of the Marines. The gun is capable of three rates of fire: semi-auto, 4 round bursts, and 10-round bursts. The rounds from G- 2 treat DR as half value, but any damage going through armor is halved. game data: G-2 Dam 8d, SS 10, acc 12, 1/2 dam 1250, max 3750, rof varies, Str 9, rcl 0, mag 60, weight (gun) 7.75 lbs, weight (ammo) 0.9 lbs cost: gun, $1500 ammo, $40 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dysonian Arms SAW-7d The SAW (Squad Assault Weapon) is a combination weapon in use by the Army and Marines. Using the standard rifle configuration, the system uses a 7.5 mm belt-fed light machine gun with a magazine fed .75-inch (19mm) gyroc launcher underneath (see Ultra Tech). The ammo for the LMG is carried in a small pack on the user's back, and consists of 200 rounds. The belt is protected by a flexible rectangular hose. The weapon is intended to be hip-fired. game data: 7.5mm LMG dam 7d, ss 14, acc 9, 1/2 dam 1000, max 4600, str 11, rcl -2, rof 12*, mag 200 belt .75" gyroc dam varies, ss 14, acc 5, 1/2 dam 1800, max 2500, str --, rcl --, rof 1/2, mag 10 clip weight(gun): 10 lbs weight(7.5mm ammo): 12 lbs weight(.75" ammo): 1.5 lbs weight(loaded): 23.5 lbs cost(gun): $2000 cost(7.5mm ammo): $75 cost(.75" ammo): varies The gyroc portion uses any of the rounds available for gyrocs in Ultra Tech. It uses the same magazines as the rocket carbine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ArmsCorp G-4 Gauss Pistol This is a conventional-looking pistol, using the same 4mm rounds as the G-2, but in a different clip. The gun can fire semi-auto or four- round burts. Treat armor penetration and damage as per the G-2. The gun has adjustable micro-sights. Though awkward, the G-4 can fire a RAG (acc 3 for RAG), with a grenade attachment costing twice normal (see below). game data G-4 dam 4d, ss 10, acc 6, 1/2 dam 325, max 1000, str 9, mag 30 rcl 0, weight (gun) 2 lbs, weight (ammo) 0.5 lbs cost: gun, $500 ammo, $20 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Simms AP-7/10 Snub Pistol This 10mm pistol uses low-velocity ammo, and is intended for use on starships. Various types of ammo are available. A cheaper, revolver version is available: the gun is $200, ammo is $15 and 0.1 pound, and magazine capacity is 6. When used from a rifle, conventional (ie, slug) ammo may be used. The shells come in various types. The grenades have a half damage of 1000 yards, and a max range of 1500. The dedicated launcher has a battlefield sight like the G-2 GBR. RAGs can be made laser-guided at x10 cost, and with a 20% drop in damage. The rocket kicks in 3 yards after firing, at which time the grenade is armed. The attachments can be made for rifles 4mm to 8mm. However, it is hard to find since rifle ranges classify it as a pistol, and pistol ranges classify it as a rifle, amongst other reasons. The full-sized carbines could fire rifle grenades. M10: 8 pounds loaded; frequently fitted with silencer (dam 2d); also comes with folding wire stock. ROF is 12. This is the .45 ACP version. For the 9mm version, damage is 2d+2, ROF 16, Str 10, rcl -1. P-38: 1.5 pounds loaded, $1000 (1991), Very reliable. Was the standard pistol of Germany in WII, and serves today in slightly modified form as the P-1. .25 auto: 0.5 pounds loaded, $150, -2 to holdout (fits in the palm of a hand). Generally used as a weapon of last resort. M61: fires .32 ACP ammo, loaded weight 3 pounds; stats above for 1- hand semi-auto fire, stock folded. If stock is extended, increase acc by +3. If fired auto (rof 13 -- 20 round mag available), rcl -2 stock extended, -4 if folded. Generally issued to tank crews and paratrooper officers. StG 44: the WWII German assault rifle that was the direct descendant of the AK47, firing a shortened 7.92mm rifle round. Loaded weight is 12.5 pounds, and ROF is 13. It was intended to replace the rifle and submachinegun. Earlier versions were designated MP43 and MP44, but function about the same. FG 42: another WWII German design, of which only 5000 were made; it is a fully automatic rifle firing the full sized 7.92mm rifle round. The clip is on the left of the receiver, and the gun comes with a folding bipod and a spike-type bayonet (which folds back under the barrel when not in use). The weapon uses a heavy muzzle brake and a recoil-spring sliding shoulder stock system to achieve a manageable recoil for a weapon of its power. ROF is 9 and loaded weight is 11 lbs. The FG 42 was principally used by paratroopers. M-3A1 'grease gun': This was the successor to the Thompson SMG, appearing in 1944 and seeing service into the 1960's. The weapon was lighter and cheaper than the Thompson. Weight is 8 pounds, and ROF is 7 (automatic only). With some easy work and an the replacement of the bolt, barrel, and a filler for the magazine, it could be converted to 9mm in the field. Such a conversion would take about 5 minutes. The M-3A1 costs about a fourth as much as a Thompson, and the 9mm conversion kit costs about 1/4 as much as the gun. The gun uses a telescoping wire stock, with overall length 30 inches extended, 23 inches collapsed. An earlier version, the M-3, was available in 1942 -- treat it the same, but with a malfunction number of 16. Both versions had some problems with the single- column magazines throughout its careers; there is a 33% chance for any critical miss to be a jam. .44 automag: this is much more than a automatic .44 magnum; the rounds are made using a .44-cal bullet and a cut-down 7.62mm NATO rifle casing. The power is incredible; with the damage bonus for being .40+ cal, it does as much damage as many rifles. However, it requires a strong firer. Since it has gone out of production, both weapons and ammo are hard to find. Cost would be at least $1000, and ammo would cost at least $1 per round. Loaded weight is 3.5 pounds. ROF is ~2. Other, more recent, weapons and rounds (the .50- cal Desert Eagle and the .45 Remington Magnum (twice the power of a .45-ACP round)) are moving into the vacancy. Dardick: in layman's terms, the Dardick was a magazine fed revolver. Loading was done via a side gate in the grip. 15 and 20 round versions were available (the 20 round version had two loading gates). Various calibers were used. The above stats are for the 9mm. .38-cal versions were also available. The standard rounds, because of the peculiar three-chamber 'cylinder', were triangular. Conventional rounds were placed in triangular casings called 'trounds'. The gun failed to catch on, and is now a collector's piece. Loaded weight was 1.5 pounds (10 round model). LeMat revolver: this is a monster revolver from the mid-to-late- 1800's. It had a 9 shot cylinder which rotated about a shortened .65-caliber shotgun barrel. Few were made. It was a break-open revolver (much like the .455 Webley). Weight was about 3.5 pounds. ROF is ~2 for the .44-cal section, 1 for the .65. Cost at the time was $30, but the gun was hard to find and proved troublesome at times (malf 16). SKS carbine: this Soviet rifle was the first made to use the 7.62 x 39mm ammo used in the the AK-47. The gun used an integral magazine that was charger-loaded. It comes with an integral bayonet (treat as small knife) that folds back under the rifle when not in use. Loaded weight is 8.5 pounds. Versions of the SKS were used in Warsaw Pact countries, China, and a few other areas. Though called a carbine, it was designed to be the tactical equivalent of the M-1 Garand or M-14. Otherwise, it was a fairly undistinguished rifle. Boys anti-tank rifle: developed in the mid-1930's, this .55-cal gun was capable of penetrating the current tank armor. However, it was quickly outpaced by armor developments. Still, a few were sporadically used in WWII, and some exist today, a few converted to .50-cal (dam 12d). The round used in the Boys should be considered armor-piercing. The gun loads from a 5 round box magazine, and comes with a bipod and monopod. The gun is intended to be fired from a rest. The weapon is 36 pounds in weight, and is six feet long. After each shot, have the firer roll vs. HT+4. If the roll fails, the right arm (for a right handed fired) has been crippled, and the firer automatically takes HT/2 damage. In addition to other penalties, every point over/under the required str, there is a +/- 1 per point difference to the above HT roll. G-11 K2: This is a 4.73mm automatic rifle that fires caseless ammo. The magazine fits over the barrel, parallel to it, with the bullets facing down. The feed system is wheel-like, and rotates the rounds 90 degrees, getting them faced in the right direction. The weapon is very reliable. There are two rates of automatic fire: in the three round burst, the recoil of the first round is not felt until the third round has left the gun. The gun may be fired semi-auto or in three round bursts, with no felt difference. Normal automatic fire is also available, with a ROF of 8, but recoil is added only on every other burst. Loaded weight is 10.5 pounds. It is currently in limited use by West German armed forces. Two additional 45 round clips can be carried over the barrel, one on either side of the magazine currently feeding the weapon. This is simply for convenience; the two other magazines are not attached to any feed system. Each magazine weighs 0.75 pounds. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sources: The X-series is losely based on the modern Calico Arms weapons; The M-143 and the variant 20mm assult gun are based on designs from the Dirty Pair comics; The gauss rifle, 20mm assualt gun, snub pistol, and the RAGs are taken from Traveller; The pulse rifle and incinerator are from Alien/Aliens; The SAW is from GallForce II; The Mauser 960 is from BattleTech/MechWarrior; The under-rifle shotgun is from Predator; the historic firearms were mainly taken from: _Small_Arms_of_the_World_ (Smith) and _Military_Small_Arms_of_the_20th_Century_ (Hogg,Weeks); the M-1 carbine and .25 auto were derived from GURPS Special Ops and the above books, and the M-10 was derived from Special Ops, GURPS Horror, and the above books
