Copyright (c) 1995 by "Kevin J. Chase" Dye: A powder or pastille that is dissolved in alcohol to produce a strong, permanent dye. Dissolving in water will make a water-soluable, temporary dye. It may also be used as an ink, paint (if thickened), or tattoo dye. Smoke: A potion, powder, or pastille that produces a burning, blinding smoke in vast, billowing clouds of whatever color the alchemist desired. The potion will smoke as soon as exposed to air (for beast results, pout onto a clean, dry surface), the powder is simply thrown into the air, and the pastille must be burned. Tear/nerve gas versions are more difficult (and dangerous) to make, but use the same principle. Glue/Grease and Solvent: A bottle of extremely powerful glue (or grease) and a matching bottle of bond-breaking or grease-cutting solvent. (I personally like the AD&D1 idea that the pure solvent will eventually dissolve a square foot of anything other than glass it contacts.) Chameleon: A paste make-up that will (in, say, 1d seconds) alter its color to that of its immediate surroundings. (``Can't... do... plaid!!'' ) Sharpening Oil: A potion used on a sharpening block in place of normal oil. It allows any blade to be improved (temporarily) by increasing its Quality one level. Sealant: A paste that will seal cracks in glass, mugs, boards, etc. Psionic Power: A potion that increases a given psionic power by a bit, for a bit. (for random small values of ``a bit'') Deafness: Makes the drinker temporarily deaf. A variant for blindness, muteness, etc. should exist. This is not entirely useless, although ``sleep aid'' is all that I can think of right now. (Because it is 0118, maybe?) Coagulant: A paste that makes the blood clot. It doesn't heal the wound any, it just stops the bleeding. Use the ``idiot with an Ace Bandage'' rule in Basic for the amount of HT regained. Dryness: A powder that will harmlessly soak up one gallon of any liquid harmlessly for each bit (see above definition of ``bit'') used. An idiot who eats a bit (QV) of this stuff gets hit with a (optionally toned-down version of a) Dehydrate spell. Electroplating: A potion that contains some amount of ``dissolved'' gold, silver, or whathaveyou. It will be deposited on the first non-glass it comes in contact with, even things that are not normally electroplated (plastic, etc.). The amount of gold in the potion was put into it during the brewing process, so there is no way to ``make gold'' out of this potion. ``Sweet Water'' (TSR TM violation): Turns any liquid it contacts into pure, distilled water... including other potions. As always, one gallon per ``bit''. Degausser: A potion that de-magnetizes anything it touches. Can be loaded into a fire extinguisher and kept near a pirate BBS' pile of disks in case of a bust. Polish: A _very_ good floor/armor/mirror polish. Liquid -- no scrubbing, no buffing, no fuss, no muss (whatever that is), and no unsightly waxy build-up. Ultra-bleach: A potion that will dissolve any coloring, even ink in books or the whatever it is in color photographs, Kodak paper or no. It will even neutralize the Dye from above but will only dissolve the image on a color TV in Toon campaigns. AC: A pastille that reduces the air temperature around it as it burns... It burns with a small, cold flame, so it is useful for light without heat as well. Light: A pastille that burns with the brilliance of magnesium, but without the heat. Contraceptive: A potion, paste, powder, or pill that actually works. If you can figure out how to use the burning pastille in this role, whatever you do, DON'T tell me... I don't want to know.
