CHILDREN OF THE CRUCIBLE "My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth". [The Proverbs. 3.11-12] "But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience". [St. Luke. 8.15] Children of the Crucible do not see it as the Angels job to do things to or for humanity. Rather, their job is to guide humanity to do the right things itself. Their aim is to encourage human virtue and discourage human vice. There are disagreements as to what constitutes virtue and vice, but all Children of the Crucible accept that Angels are to act as mentors to their charges. REQUIRED ADVANTAGES: E.S.P. Power 10 (+30 pts). REQUIRED DISADVANTAGES: Most difficult of all Angelic jobs (-15 pts). CELESTIAL CHILDREN OF THE CRUCIBLE Angels of the Crucible usually have a favorite virtue that they like to foster. Standardly, they find some human with the corresponding vice, and then work "with" them until the human exhibits the virtue in question. Such a transformation is not easy to perform, and may take a great deal of time and subtlety. Stereo-types Apocalypt: If something is broken, you fix it. Only a frustrated child responds by smashing it to bits. Bachae: The hard fact that the Bachae seem unwilling to face is that the most pleasant thing to do isn't always the right thing to do. Bhoddidsatva: Without desire there is no thirst for goodness. Without a thirst for goodness, nothing good can result. Infernal Children of the Crucible: They know the value of things, and steal from humanity the only thing worth having. There is no greater evil in the world than our own dark brothers. Fury: Punishment is a means, not an end. Worse yet, punishment without hope of respite is the surest way to blacken someone's soul. Justicar: They may have their priorities a bit skewed, but at least they make a distinction between good acts and evil acts. Lamenter: Comforting the sick is important, and the Lamenters do a valuable job. But curing disease is more important yet. Narcissite: Becoming better and becoming more powerful are not the same thing. You would expect an Angel to know that. Mammonite: Humans don't need to get more, they need to be more. On the other hand, the Mammonites do often encourage the virtue of charity... Muse: They are in the right ballpark in that they genuinely care about promoting human aspirations, but they sometimes forget that not all aspirations are good aspirations. Reaper: They understand the vanity of worldly "greatness". Honest Angels. Tiamatic: There is something to be said for them. After all, fear of the law of the land may distract people from the importance of the laws of morality. It is not enough to do the right thing because you fear the police, you must do the right thing because it is right. INFERNAL CHILDREN OF THE CRUCIBLE Infernal Children of the Crucible differ from their Celestial brethren in that while the Angels encourage humanity to exhibit virtue, the Infernals encourage humanity to exhibit vice. They are the classic demonic tempters, delighting in corrupting the virtuous and bringing about their fall into degradation. Stereo-types Apocalypt: Breaking your toys can be fun for a little while, but is ultimately short sighted. Besides, where's the artistry? Bachae: The promises of pleasure have always made the best bait. By encouraging an obsession with pleasure, these Angels function as the respectable front of our organization. Bhoddidsatva: Not only is their goal silly, it is hopelessly impractical. The human that can choose abstinence over temptation is one in a million, if that. Celestial Children of the Crucible: Without them, there would be no fun. Fury: Their Celestials claim to despise us, but it is we alone who allow them to justify their existence, for we keep humanity worthy of their hate. Justicar: How dare Justicar Angels look down on us? Without us, they would have to be Bachae, and there is nothing they would rather avoid than that! Lamenter: They have a deep understanding of what is really going on. What is so funny is that they are by nature powerless to do anything about it! Narcissite: Power is important, but don't forget to use it to evil ends! Mammonite: :) The love of money is the root of all evil! Muse: Very helpful! You can't lead someone astray if they are just sitting there. The more activity, the more activity there is to pervert. Reaper: They are all the more our slaves for refusing to accept that it is the deadly sin of envy that inspires them. Tiamatic: I like them. Without freedom, there is no choice, and without choice, there are no evil choices.
