MUSE "Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well". [I Samuel. 16.16] "Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness, come before his presence with singing" [Psalms. Psalm 100] Muses believe that the original function of Angels was to assist in the creation of the universe for humanity to live in. In God's absence, they intend to continue with this job as best they can. By their nature, Angels can't simply leave humans alone while they create things themselves. Thus, the Muse's compromise by taking it upon themselves to inspire and assist humans to create. What exactly is created varies enormously depending on the inclinations of the Angel and the human(s) they assist. It could be a symphony, or an architectural wonder, or even a mathematical proof. REQUIRED ADVANTAGES: Telepathy Power 6 (+30 pts). REQUIRED DISADVANTAGES: The unusual difficulty of their calling (10 pts). CELESTIAL MUSE Celestial Muses co-operate more easily than most other Choirs. This is fortunate for them, because they are not popular among Celestials in general. Firstly, they strike many Celestials as having shirked the great battle against evil in favour of enjoying themselves. Secondly, their use of humans as a stand-in for God is considered by many to be grossly offensive. Though God is gone, loyalty to his honour still runs deep, and a perceived slight can be taken very seriously. Stereo-types Apocalypt: God Himself was a creator, not a destroyer. Creation is divine, and destruction its opposite. Bachae: A pig in mud can be happy, but its not much of an ambition. Bhoddidsatva: To turn your back on the universe is to turn your back on He who made it. Children of the Crucible: Sound. Stuffy, perhaps. Stubborn, probably. Narrow minded, definitely. But basically sound. Fury: How can they do this in God's name, knowing that it would not be what He would have wanted? We must carry out his plan as best we can, not wreck it in our despair at His loss. Justicar: Returning bad for bad and good for good, they are the ultimate followers with not an original thought in their heads. Lamenter: Some suffering is needed for a full human life, and anyway, if they want to help humans, why don't they try concentrating on something positive from time to time? Mammonite: The materialistic life can distract from the artistic life, but on the other hand, having a certain amount of money does free you up to create. Infernal Muse: It is easy to let the fact that they are so good at what they do distract one from remembering that they shouldn't be doing it. They shouldn't. Narcissite: They may be arrogant, but they do genuinely inspire humanity. Reaper: Strike down anyone who excels? That certainly leaves The Reapers free and clear. Tiamatic: They are absolutely necessary. God understood the importance of freedom and free will, and so should we. INFERNAL MUSE Infernal Muses are much more acceptable to other Infernals than Celestial Muses are to other Celestials. This is because the Infernal Muses have gone to some trouble to combine their creative side with their evil side. In short, they attempt to inspire humans to perform creatively wicked acts. Scale is not a factor, but originality is. Whenever a truly bizarre and brutal crime is committed, look for an Infernal Muse behind it. Although they do not share the stigma borne by Celestial Muses, many Infernals would rather see Infernal Muses concentrate on producing the greatest amount of evil, rather than the greatest level of artistry. This strikes Infernal Muses as sheer barbarism. Although artistic evil is regarded by them as the highest form of art, Infernal Muses are known for a keen appreciation of art in general. For this reason, they quite like the company of Celestial Muses and their human protgs, even if the feeling isn't always reciprocated. Stereo-types Apocalypt: Those too mentally sterile to create should sit there and watch, not vandalize other people's work out of jealousy. Bachae: Joy is not the well-spring of creativity. Happy people just sit there being happy. Art is born of suffering. Bhoddidsatva: Anyone who wants to just crawl up their own arse and die should do so. I certainly don't want them around. Children of the Crucible: Use humans as your medium by all means, but don't forget their genius as a source of content. Fury: These guys know art, even if their medium is a little unusual. Watch them. It's worth it. Justicar: Sterile. They act according to comprehensive, inviolate rules set down from outside. Lamenter: Such an appreciative audience. Its wonderful to have them around. Mammonite: The more money there is about, the more complex society is. I like complexity. Celestial Muse: Fabulous! If only they would really let themselves go, just think what they would achieve! Narcissite: They pontificate to humans too much, and don't listen enough. Humans can have some really interesting ideas. Reaper: Hating anyone who are different is alright, but destroying anyone who is different is obscene. If they have their way, they will leave the world a drab, gray waste. Tiamatic: Freedom is not an end, but as a means, it is without equal. Not even money is its match.
