In the 23rd century all shopping carts have been given robot brains and self propulsion.

While this makes them slightly easier to use, it also keeps people from walking away with them.

This shopping cart developed paranoid delusions that it would be disassembled and so it flew off on its own.

Now it lurks in back alleys, scrounging power wherever it can.
