The simplest way to handle a character trying to bend a 1" diameter bar or breaking handcuffs or busting down a door is to treat it as a Quick Contest of ST versus the object's hit points. Repeated attempts are allowed, but on each failed attempt, the character should have to make a HT roll; a normal failure costs 1 Fatigue (reducing ST by 1 on the next attempt), while a critical failure costs the character his own Thrust damage in "generic bruising."

This lets you read the table on p. B125 as a table of ST scores that would be needed to have even odds of bending, snapping or kicking in something. A 1" iron bar requires about ST 20 to bend, a 1" slab door requires about ST 10 to kick in, and a 3" thick branch would call for about ST 12 to snap off of a tree.
