Subject: Re: Final Call for Vehicles

Okay, since you asked... Here is a vehicle currently in play in a
local 1990s GURPS game.
This is by no means the most formidable, exotic or advanced vehicle
on the net (or even in those PC's garage) but it may be the most fun.
It can be dropped into any late 20th century campaign with few or no
modifications.

VOLKSWAGON VAN
Body (light, cheap, unstreamlined)
        $1200, 1200 lbs, 300cf, HT300 (DR see below)
Powered wheels, four
        $1200, 300 lbs, -30cf, HT 31 (wheels) 16 (tires) DR2
Drive train, 40KW
        $600, 60 lbs, -1.2cf, HT n/a DR5
Gasoline engine, 30KW
        $950, 170 lbs, -3.2 cf, HT15, DR5
Gas tank, 8 gallons, fire #11
        $40, 56 lbs, -1.2cf, HT8
Seats: 2 roomy, 2 normal light (bench), 2 roomy (bed in rear, nonstandard)
        $400, 200 lbs, -150cf
Armor, TL7 standard, 24 total points
        $720, 540 lbs
Cargo space (glove compartment, 40 cf under bed)
        -41cf
Top deck (roof cargo rack)
        $20, 2 lbs
Improved suspension and brakes
        $2200
CB radio
        $100
Radar detector
        $100
External equipment spare tire, 5 gallon jerrycan (TL6); both on rear
        Tire $50, 25 lbs; gas can $25, 37.5 lbs

Maximum payload ~1 ton; weight unloaded 2582.5 lbs. Total cost $7605.
Armor is PD3 DR5 on all sides, 2/3 on top, 1/1 on bottom. Milage is ~36mpg,
top speed 84 mph, acceleration 4.875 mph/s (0-60 in 13.4 seconds!), improved
brakes allowing decelleration at 15 mph/s. Modifier of +5 to vision rolls
to spot due to size and highly colorful paint job.

The only differences between this and a 'standard' Vanagon are the roof
rack, jerrycan, CB, radar detector, rear bed and improved brakes. The +5
to spot includes a multicolored 'hippiemobile' appearance, and is lowered
for stock vehicles. A picture of this van can be found on page 157 of
GURPS Vehicles.
