Note the gSR of 5.  Combined with full stablization this gives full Acc to maximum range while stomping through any sort of terrain.  And with a gMR of 1.0 it can dodge at top speed.

The legs are also good for dropping prone for a -4 target modifier even without cover.

But usually the elephant will hide behind cover, use indirect fire and get some infantry to laze the targets.
