Fast Attack Vehicle (TL 8) Version 1.0 Copyright 1996 by Lan Kelly (CyberWere@ConnectI.com) The FAV is a military dune buggy designed for high speed off-road recon. It carries a variety of equipment for detection and defense. Most of the detection equipment, the dockable laptop computer and the radio can be dismounted and hooked to an D or E cell. The two spare tires are mounted over the engine space to provide additional protection. Monocrys side curtains & top provide protection when rolled down. The small plastic vision slits in the curtains obstruct sight too much for most crews, so unless parked or under imminent threat the sides are often rolled up. The 40mm Auto EMGL [crit|sxp|HEAT-4d*2(10)|20|15|n/a|4000|4|20] is primarily anti-personnel but can be used against soft-skinned and lightly armored vehicles. The 5.5mm Caseless MG [crit|cr|6d|15|13|1000|4500|16|200] is for anti-personnel. Both weapons are accessible by standing in the gunner's seat and both can be dismounted or positions switched. Passive countermeasures including the curtains are a painted camo surface and basic IR cloaking. Basic sound baffling is acoustic materials at the engine and exhaust. The rechargeable power cell is good for 2 hours of travel time plus firing 200 rds of grenades. By running at low speeds (less than half) the power cell can be recharged in about 4 hours. By alternating between the ceramic PP & the P cell the range of the vehicle can be extended greatly. Running on the power cell also reduces the IR and acoustic signature allowing a "silent" running mode. Uses 96JULY16 errata. Open frame & Non-rigid armor adapted from GURPS Robots. Spare tire per John Freiler. Structure: 86 cf standard medium body (HT 188), max. load 3,440 lbs., four powered smart wheels (DR 4, HT 12/24) with improved brakes, improved off road suspension and PR tires.
