Copyright (c) 1995 Onno Meyer Cyberworld Main Battle Tank v1.0 (TL 8) In the one-and-twenty, few nations have - or need - main battle tanks, but a SOTA (state of the art) design beats the 20th-century predecessors or everything else by a fair margin. The primary weapon of this monster is a 140mm hypercannon with APFSDSDU ammo (crit|cr|6d*50(3)|no|16|3 mi.|7 mi|1/4|40), the coaxial 15mm machine gun (crit|cr|15d|20|16|1,500|5,000|8|2,000) will penetrate combat infantry dress even without APS and the point defense is handled by a 5.5mm minigun (ver|cr|6d|10|15|1,000|4,500|100|23,200). The durasteel might be expensive, but it takes a 140mm cannon (or 120mm with DU) to pierce the front armor. The tank has IR and sonic camouflage, but no radar countermeasures. Sensors are a 9-mile thermograph, a 40-mile radar and ALLTVs. An endurance of 12 hours gives 720 miles and 1.8 mpg. The tank uses early TL8 technology [Dec. 93 errata sheet] comparable to GURPS Cyberworld. Structure: 1,500 cf standard XH body (HT 2,400), max. load 67.5 tons, 60 degree front and 30 degree top slope, sealed body, two tracks (DR 60, HT 1,200 each) with improved suspension and advanced controls. 500 cf full-traverse turret (HT 400) with 60 degree front slope and 30 degree side slopes. 20 cf full-traverse miniturret (DR 125) on top of the main turret. Propulsion: 2,150 KW tracked drivetrain. Power: 2,200 KW ceramic turbo engine (DR 5, HT 150) burning 33 gallons/h with 400 gallons diesel (self-sealing, DR 5, HT 100, fire on 6). 50 KWh rechargeable power slug (DR 5, HT 8). Accomodations: Four seats, three of them half in the turret. Vision: Slits. Crew Requirements: Driver, commander, gunner, loader. Armor on Body: 3,000 points advanced armor, F6/3,000 (sloped), B6/300 R6/350 L6/350 T6/300 (sloped) U6/300, DR150 tread skirts and RAPs on all sides. Armor on Turret: 2,000 points advanced armor, TF6/2,000 (sloped) TB6/250 TR6/375 (sloped) TL6/375 (sloped) TT6/250, again with RAPs. Cargo: None, but 10.1 cf waste space. In the early 22th century, the market for tanks has slowed down, but those is use by wealthy nations are excellent designs. The 20mm railgun (ver|cr|6d*40(3)|18|16|3 mi.|10 mi.|1|200|10 KWh) has less raw punch than the old 140mm ETCs, but it is lighter and faster. Secondary guns are a laser (ver|imp|20d|13|20|2 mi.|4.5 mi.|4|2 KWh) and a gauss minigun (ver|imp|5d|5|14|1,000|2 mi.|100|40,000|0.1 KWh). Sensors are a 9-mile thermograph, a 30-mile ladar and a pair of ALLTVs. The cerametal is not covered by RAPs since they would have to go under the various hull coatings. The endurance of 12h gives 720 miles (2 mpg) and the tank can run on worlds up to 1.28 G as long as oxygen for the engine is present (after all, the hypermass conversion drive might actually work ...). The tank uses late TL8 technology [Dec. 93 errata sheet] comparable to GURPS Terradyne. Structure: 1,000 cf expensive XH body (HT 1,800), maximum load 45 tons, 60 degree front and 30 degree rear slopes, sealed body, tracks (DR 60L, HT 900 each) with improved suspension and advanced controls. 300 cf full- traverse turret (HT 300) with 60 degree front slope and 30 degree side slopes with a 10 cf full-traverse miniturret (DR 100L) on top. Propulsion: 1.8 MW tracked drivetrain. Power: 2 MW fuel cell (DR 5, HT 150) with 360 gal. hydrogen (self-sealing, DR 5, HT 100, fire on 10) for 12h. 2 MWh rechargeable power cell (DR 5, HT 16). Excess power 144 KW. Accomodations: Three seats, two of them half in the turret, no windows. Crew Requirements: Driver, commander, gunner. Few of the forces fighting against the ProGov warrant the use of MBTs, but a real gun might come handy. The specifications called for a tank that would resist frontal hits by all handheld anti-tank weapons. It is armed with a pintle-mounted MG (crit|cr|15d|20|16|1,500|5,000|8|300), a small hypercannon (with APFSDS crit|cr|6d*10(2)|no|15|1.5 mi.|3 mi.|1|210) and a coaxial caseless minigun (crit|cr|6d+6(2)|13|15|1,500|6,750|100|3,000). Contermeasures are limited to laser sensors and a few dischargers. Sensors are a 4-mile thermograph and a LLTV. The range is 3,000 miles (with 14.3 mpg). The tank uses early TL08 technology [Dec. 93 errata sheet] similar to GURPS Cyberworld. Structure: 300 cf standard XH body (HT 900), max. load 13.5 tons, 60 degree front slope, sealed body, two tracks (DR 20, HT 450 each) with improved suspension, 60 cf full-traverse turret. Propulsion: 270 KW tracked drivetrain. Power: 280 KW fuel cell (DR 5, HT 40) with 210 gallons of hydrogen (self- sealing, DR 5, HT 60, fire on 10) for 50 hours. Excess power 4 KW. Accomodations: Three cramped seats, two half in the turret. Vision: Slits. Crew Requirements: Driver, commander and gunner. Armor on Body: 700 points expensive armor, F6/200 (slope) B6/100 R6/150 B6/150 T6/100 U6/100 and RAPs everywhere but on the underside. Armor on Turret: 600 points expensive armor, TF6/200 TB6/100 TR6/100 TL6/100 TT6/100 and RAPs on all sides. Cargo: 20 cf (and 5.1 + 2.2 cf waste space).
