Basic Orbital Station v1.0 (TL 08) Copyright 1996 by Onno Meyer This 'vehicle' is a space station about the size of a skylab, but half a tech level more advanced. The station has three airlocks, two at the ends of the cylinder and one in the center - on a well-run station, an emergency reentry vehicle is kept ready there. The station has 20 maneuvering thrusters, but it is unlikely that more than one at a time will fire, thus the low acceleration. It has a 400 square foot fold-out solar array and batteries for the night. Sensors are a pair of thermographs with 2.67 miles nominal range, a radar with 140 miles range and a recon camera - enough for maps, but not for intelligence work. Note that the pricetag assumes mass production and doesn't include the delivery - real costs will be considerably higher. The station uses TL08 tech [Mar. 96 errata sheet] with the solar panel from Space. I ignored the power source restriction for lifesupport systems. Structure: 12,000 cf extra-light cheap body (HT 2,000), maximum load N/A, seal. Propulsion: Twenty 200-pound chemical rockets (DR 5, HT 4) with 2,000 gal. rocket fuel (self-sealing, DR 5, HT 300, fire on 10) for 30 minutes per rocket (or any other combination, e.g. ten hours for one thruster). Power: 500 KW solar panel array and 1,000 KWh advanced batteries (DR 5, HT 200). Peak power usage 275 KW. Accomodations: Ten standard quarters, no significant windows. Crew Requirements: N/A.
