Mars Clipper v1.0 (TL 09) Copyright (c) 1995 by Onno Meyer Special thanks to M.A. Lloyd for a couple of real-world approximations. While robots and supplies take low-energy transfer orbits, your people should travel with style, with our "Mars Clipper" - the travel time is some eight months, a full month saved off the standard run! The ship consists of a rotating crew section with all the quarters and a big fuel/cargo/support section with everything else. It has radars (with 180 miles nominal range, much better in space) and ALLTVs to aid with the navigation. Using 750 tons of advanced rocket fuel, it carries 40 people (including four crewmembers) and about 40 tons of cargo. The ship uses TL09 tech [Dec. 93 errata sheet] with the chemical rocket from Robots and an airlock from Space. Structure: 60,000 cf expensive XL body (HT 5,000), sealed, with a 8,000 cf full-traverse turret (HT 2,500). Propulsion: Three 10t chemical rockets (DR 5, HT 20) with 2D vectored thrust and 300,000 gallons rocket fuel (DR 5, HT 8,000, fire on 11) for 20 hours at full power. Power: Two 1.5 MW fission plants (DR 5, HT 60), excess power 600 KW. Accomodations: 40 cramped quarters (in the turret), only vision slits. Crew Requirements: Pilot, navigator, radio operator and engineer. Armor: 120 points advanced armor on the body, F4/20 B4/20 R4/20 L4/20 T4/20 U4/20 and 100 points advanced armor on the turret, TF4/20 TB4/20 TR4/20 TL4/20 TT4/20. Cargo: 6,000 cf cargo hold and 2,212.5 cf access space in the body. Accessories: Three fifty-person full lifesystems, rad shielding, four long-range radars with rangefinder (scan 26, DR 3, HT 20, electronics), four ALLTVs (+5), two four-person airlocks, three automeds (DR 5, HT 75, equipment), four optical microframes (C5, DR 3, HT 12, electronics), four INS (DR 3, HT 6, electronics), 100 man-years of provisions, eight long-distance radios (DR 3, HT 4, electronics), four transponders, eight lasercoms, electronics workshop (DR 5, HT 200, equipment). Programs: Database (54.6 GB maps & books), datalink, sensor operation (C5, skill 17 or +6), routine vehicle operation (C5, skill 16). Statistics: Cost $11,000,000, design mass 950 tons, current load 50 tons, loaded mass 1,000 tons, size modifier +8, radar signature +8, IR signature +11 (+17 with engines), acoustic signature N/A. Ground, Water and Air Performance: None. Space Performance: Acceleration from 0.03 to 0.12 G, delta-V 39.1 km/s.
