Space Yacht v1.0 (TL 10) Copyright 1996 by Onno Meyer If your time is too expensive to wait for a liner, this is the ship for you. The space yacht might not be able to compete with the accomodations of a cruise liner, but it goes directly where you want. The yacht has four cabins and a quadruple computer system that could replace the crew, but a qualified pilot should be aboard at all times. It has a compact sensor suite (16-mile thermographs, 10-mile multiscanners, 240-mile radars and ALLTVs) and secure communications gear. The yacht can operate on worlds up to 2 G and from short airstrips. The ship is a TL 10 vehicle [Mar. 96 errata sheet] with a reactionless engine and a hyperdrive from Space. Structure: 4,000 cf cheap medium body (HT 3,000), max. load 80 tons, very good streamlining, seal, four retractable wheels (DR 2, HT 125/250), two wings (HT 1,500) and 2D vectored thrust. Propulsion: Twin 38-ton fusion rockets (DR 5, HT 125) with two 750-gallon wing tanks for 34.8 minutes and refueling probe, two 2-ton reactionless thrusters (DR 5, HT 150) and a hyperdrive generator (DR 5, HT 125). Power: Two 2.5 MW fusion plants (DR 5, HT 40) and 8 MWh rechargeable power cells (DR 5, HT 30). Excess power 878 KW. Accomodations: Four quarters, no significant windows. Crew Requirements: One Pilot, possibly one mechanic. Armor: 500 points advanced armor, F6/80 B6/60 R6/60 L6/60 T6/60 U6/60 RW6/60 LW6/60. Cargo: 400 cf (and 172.4 cf access space). Accessories: High-security alarm, compact fire extinguisher, two 5-person full lifesystems, rad shielding, two medium thermographs (scan 22, DR 3, HT 4, electronics), two medium multiscanners (scan 18, DR 3, HT 6, electronics), two medium air-search radars (scan 27/21, DR 3, HT 10, electronics), two ALLTVs (+7), airlock, four opt. minicomps (C5, DR 3, HT 4, electronics), dual controls, two INS (DR 3, HT 6, electronics), two GPS, two interface jacks, 12 man-months of provisions, two secure long-distance radios (DR 3, HT 4, electronics), two transponders, two spotlights (DR 5, HT 2, exposed equipment), two EM coms. Programs: Database (86.2 GB maps), datalink, sensor operation (C5, skill 18 or +7), tactical vehicle operation (C5, skill 17). Statistics: Cost $7,500,000, design mass 38 tons, max. payload 42 tons, max. cargo 8 tons, current load 2 tons, loaded mass 40 tons, size modifier +6, radar signature +7, IR signature +16 (+12 on reactionless drive), acoustic signature +7 (+10 on the ground). Ground Performance: Speed factor 26, top speed 325 mph (reduced to stall speed), acceleration 12.5 mph/s, deceleration 10 mph/s, MR 0.25, SR 5. Water Performance: None. Air Performance: Speed factor 96, stall speed 12.5 mph, top speed 1,200 mph, accleration 25 mph/s, decleration 15 mph/s, MR 8.25, SR 6, ceiling unlimited. Space Performance: Reactionless accleration 0.1 G, fusion acceleration 1.9 to 2.3 G, fusion delta-v 43 km/s, hyperdrive recharge time 273 minutes.
