It uses a 14,400kJ UV Chemical laser for its offensive punch and is fueled with cryogenic hydrogen/flourine which is used for both propulsion and lasing fuel. Rules for these are in MA Lloyd's Vehicles errata in the ftp site. This missile should be suitable for Hard Science(tm) campaigns. If used in conjunction with David Pulver's Vector Wars(tm) rules, it may help to reduce the scale to 100miles/hex and 1 hex per .05 G accel. SIM-2 (Space Interdiction Missile-2) TL7 Copyright 1998 by John Fosgett The SIM-2 weapons system was developed by the United States to provide the USAF with a weapon to challenge the UN's sovereignity over the off world colonies and the outer solar system. The original concept called for a weapon platform which could maneuver independantly and take the fight to the enemy while minimizing the risks to the USAF personnel and spacecraft. The SIM-2 uses a 14.4MJ UV chemical laser in a fully stabilized universal turret mount, and includes a passive infrared sensor co-axially mounted with the laser for detecting and engaging targets. Through its communications link, the SIM-2 can also function as a remote sensor platform. Although DARPA and Hughes Missile Systems are both highly confident in the weapon, the USAF higher staff still has some doubts. Although fewer than 60 of these weapons have been fielded, plans are already underway to up gun the basic model with a 230MJ laser.
