Enjoy! -John Jackson -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- The adventurers are from an island called Janzinary. It is the largest of a group of islands being colonized by the Old World Countries. The Old World countries are a good 6 weeks sail to the East from Janzinary. It has recently been discovered that about 6 weeks sail to the West is a large continent, peopled by a slightly more advance civilation, with a different system of magic. Relations between the Old World countries and the Empires of the West have been less than cordial. One of these Western Empires, The Dominion of the Drow, is invading the island of Janzinary and trying to drive off the Old World colonists. Janzinary is a tropcial island roughly the size of Cuba, it is twice as wide in the East-West direction as it is in the North-South direction. A large mountain range splits it lengthwise. The Western third is also on an elevated plateau. A cliff wall runs North-South splitting the island. The cliff wall ranges from 1 foot to 200 feet in its course. The cliffs and the mountain range split the island into four natural regions. The mountains in the western third are much smaller, rising to mammoth heights in the east. This rang also resulted in a line of islands running east from Janzinary for about 50 miles. The far western tip of Janzinary is a former Kaergam colony that rebelled and formed a democracy called Rebelhaven. Rebelhaven has since fallen under the control of the Dominion of the Drow and is ruled by an Overlord. Next to this is the colony of Iborynce (language is Iborynch) called Mer Salas. It is ruled by a Duke Pierre DuBois from the city of Hammond. Iborynce is losing badly in an invasion by the drow. The east half of the island is divided by the mountains. The northeast quarter is the colony of Ikone (language is Ikonish) and is ruled by Duke Henri Salagado from the city of Fury. The southeast quarter is the colony of Ichlang (they speak Ichlish) and is ruled by Duke Theodore Rose of Svelt (stylized as Roosevelt) from the city of Lanckmer. The Ichlish colony is the home turf of the party, and I will detail its politics further. Under Duke Theodore Roosevelt are 3 Counts. The party is operating in Howznear County (the furthest to the east). Count Howznear administers from the port city of Furbong. The second largest city in the colony (Lanckmer, the dukal seat, boasts over 150,000, while Furbong has about 70,000). Furbong is also the site of the University of Furbong. The bishop of the entire island has his seat at the Cathedral in Furbong (The first Count Howznear paid some heavy cash to establish the university and convince the first bishop to reside in his town). Furbong is hence the most refined, scholarly city on the island, with a larger percentage of wealthy nobles and adventurers. Howznear County is divided into 4 sections, ruled by an Earl and 3 Barons. There is also an Earl Antiyon who administers Furbong and the surrounding area. The Earls and Barons have numerous Lords, Knights, etc. under them. The northern third of the county is mountainous and still very wild. The rest is forest / jungle. One of the Barons, Baron Vyliax Bin Hulkscath, is a dragon who controls the southwest quarter of the county. The first count made a treaty with the dragons long ago. They helped him claim the territory from the native populations of orcs, ogres, giants, hobgoblins, minotaurs, dwarves, and elves (the dwarves and elves later sided with the count) and in return they have a barony of their own. It is a capital crime to hunt dragons in Howznear County. The dragons in return never (well...) mess with anyone in the county. This irritates some of the other counts and colonies when the dragons go foraging, but the count has made the peace stick very well with the dragons. The northeast section of the county has mountainous sylvan woods and is under Earl Sycamore, a wood elven noble who sided with the first colonists to help free the island from the despicable creatures who had been abusing the place. Baron Gimmelotz, a dwarf, rules the mountains of the North and Northwest. He is the great-nephew of the 1st Baron who originally sided with the first count to help control the island. Baron Forbin Llewellyn, a human, controls the Southeastern quarter of the county. /< /< @{\\\\\\{@}###<=======================================- John Jackson \< Beolynx@io.com \<
